About the Podcast:

Civics ReCast is an educational podcast created to make civics, human rights, and social justice history more accessible to younger audiences. The project is designed especially for listeners who want to understand political issues beyond short headlines, shallow commentary, or social media summaries.
Each episode connects current and historical conflicts to the political structures, legal systems, social movements, and patterns of power that shape them. Rather than only asking what happened, Civics ReCast asks why these issues happen, how they continue, and what they reveal about rights, justice, resistance, and government.
The podcast uses a mix of solo explanations and interview-based episodes. Solo episodes explain key ideas, histories, laws, and debates in an accessible way. Interview episodes bring in guests who are academically informed, professionally connected, personally affected, or directly involved in the topic being discussed.

Our Mission:

The mission of Civics ReCast is to help young people move past shallow political commentary and toward deeper civic understanding. Through thoughtful episodes, informed conversations, and reliable resources, the podcast encourages listeners to think critically, understand different perspectives, and connect history, government, social movements, and present-day conflicts.

Civics ReCast will explore many types of democracies and other kinds of political systems. It will connect them to current and past conflicts in order to highlight the importance of education on specific kinds of governmental structures.
 

Voting Rights and Representation

We will examine how voting systems, representation, gerrymandering, the Electoral College, and voting rights laws affect who has political power and who is left out.

Apartheid and Ethno-Religious States

We will examine how legal and political systems can separate people by race, ethnicity, religion, or identity, and how those structures shape rights, citizenship, and resistance.

We will follow the movements, leaders, protests, and legal battles that challenged exclusion and expanded rights across different societies and historical moments.

Explore how war, exploitation, displacement, state violence, and international politics connect to human rights, justice, and global responsibility.
