Civics ReCast changed direction after I spent a summer interning in Kings County Family Court. I had originally imagined it as a broader civic-education podcast. In court, though, I became more interested in a simpler problem: people often need practical information at the exact moment they have the least time and energy to search for it. I kept seeing how useful information could be scattered across official court pages, agencies, legal organizations, nonprofits, and paper handouts. I also saw how much attorneys, judges, court staff, and families have to communicate in limited time. That made me want to build something that organizes what already exists rather than pretending to replace the people and organizations doing the work. For now, Civics ReCast is focused on New York City Family Court: a verified resource directory, plain-language guides grounded in official sources, and soon to be coming recorded conversations with practitioners about how the system works and where it can improve.
